Strider

Reading has always been one of my favorite pasttimes. It took me away from the problems of life. When I ws young I'd stay up late at night with the lamp in my bed, bedcovers over me and the lamp . . . reading.
My favorites? Lord of the Rings. I felt like it was a real world. I knew what each character looked like, their personalities. Strider was not really tall, but thick, dark and knarly. Just like the world he lived in. I was in love with this character. This was the kind of man I'd want to be with when I grew up. They ruined him a bit for me when the movie came out. That actor was not Strider. What were they thinking?
Alice in Wonderland was another of my favorites. I read it more than a few times. Jabberwocky is a cool poem, I can remember only a part of it tho. I still have the book.
I read books on Witchcraft, dreams and ghosts. I have to admit they aren't in my library anymore. Agatha Christi book or 2. Then came Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Loved them!
These days it's more biographies than anything.
Unfortunately my kids never found that love of books like I have. They've often wondered as I tried to find time to read a chapter or two. They don't get it. I've told them often. If you could read you can learn anything.
I used to read to my kids when they were in the bathtub. Last book was A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. We only got thru a couple of chapters before they blew me off.
My son and I tried to read the first Harry Potter but after the first chapter we looked at each other, squinced up our noses and put that piece of trash down.  Don't even talk to me about Harry Potter..  uggg.
