In the past 51 years of my life here on this planet I’ve played a geek, a hippie, punk rock groupie, the black sheep of the family, member of high iq communities, tattooed momma, spiritualist, buddhist, and working on the 2nd half of my list.

Many times in my life I’ve been told I couldn’t do something, which only makes me want to do it more.

Rebel Story: I was in my year of 16. Having all of my life gotten straight As in school and being a really good girl I realized that my family didn’t seem to pay attention to all those good qualities.. So .. fuck it. I didn’t care about school work anymore. I started smokin pot, drinking a little, doing a little ‘shroom’ and pretty much just watching out for myself. My grades began to fall. My parents never said a thing but some of my teachers were concerned and so I was sent to a school shrink to take some tests. I took those ink blot tests, drew pictures of a happy me, and pretty much did what my teacher in psyche class told me where signs of normal behavior when taking these tests. A week later I went back to the office with my mother to find out the results, which they never told me and left me out in the hallway to sit quietly while they discussed. On the way to the car I asked my mom what the tests said. She just kept walking and just said, ‘you’re just smart’. Nothing more was said and I never thought about it. . . until 30 later when I took an IQ test and found out I was in the top 1% of IQ standards.. But that’s not important. The part that is: I was 16 and decided that being a rebel was the way to go, and I’ve never looked back.

How The Rebel Café came to be

Ok, so I belonged to a few of those High IQ groups looking for others there I would enjoy interacting with. Thinking that these must be creative people. Only to find out 5-6 years into this kind of interaction ... yes, there are a few creative minds here, but the majority are just like the rest of society, except they did well on an IQ test. It didn’t make them creative, open minded thinkers.

After belonging to a few of these high iq groups I thought the need for a community was in order. They didn’t offer much in any of those groups, maybe an email list or some puzzles and tests online. I thought a community with profiles, chat rooms, clubs to talk about different subjects, picture galleries, etc, would be welcome by these ‘creative’ inventive minds.. NOT. Like I said before, they’re no more creative than the rest of society and I realized I was really limiting my now new online community, then called ‘The Geek Community’. Having spent quite a bit of money on software, development and design my community looked pretty poor and it was kindof boring. So I went back to my true feelings and thought about how I’ve always gotten along with the rebel types, being one and enjoying others who spoke their minds and did their thing.. And so, with the help of my buddy Dana, we took all our software and past knowledge with it and turned it into The Rebel Café.

I’m an entrepreneur and others, including my kids have asked me my thoughts on business, etc. So again, back to my main thought: Do what you love, enjoy what you do and you’ll be successful. This site is what I enjoy and hopefully will make a living for me as well. I’m too old to start slumming.
